Paving Stones Project—Pleasanton, CA
Brick Pillars Were an Issue
When it comes to driveways, most projects are pretty straight foreword, however, sometimes the there are details that can elude people. In this case, the brick pillars. For this paving stone driveway in Pleasanton, CA. We had to be really careful with all the brick pillars and brick siding. We covered them in bubble wrap and hand demoed near them. HERE IS THE DRIVEWAY BEFORE.
Bricks and veneers are susceptible to breaking rather easily so one must be extra careful to keep things in tact.
We service the Bay Area: San Jose, Saratoga, Sunnyvale, Los Gatos, Cupertino, Los Altos, Menlo Park and neighboring cities.

Building the new paver driveway:
Using Belgard Pavers
With this particular paver stone driveway in Pleasanton, we chose to use the new Belgard Catalina Slate paver. It's basically the same as the Belgard Catalina Stone, but with some added texture on top.
Admittedly, the crew and I were not too impressed with this particular paving stone because there were so many chipped corners that needed to be replaced. I personally spent an entire day swapping pavers. We had to get another pallet and a half of this to do, which meant time and money.
So, just a word of advice, if you are interested in the new Belgard Catalina Slate, be sure to keep that in mind. Now, if it was just a feature of the style of paver like the antique pavers they offer, such as the Dublin cobble then that would be fine. But judging by the representation on the catalog and the physical samples, it appears to not to have breaks and chips in the pavers. It also was not just a few pieces or even on a bad pallet. There were so many on each pallet that we had to cherry pick them out.
Perhaps it's a detail they will fix in the future but at the time of this writing I would consider it a problematic paver.

A Beautiful Paver Driveway
Nevertheless, after replacing over a 150 square feet of chipped pavers, the driveway looks great. We chose the color Bella to blend in with the landscape. We also did not want a color to compete with the house and the brick siding and brick pillars.
This Pleasanton paver driveway sits on top of a hill with absolutely beautiful views of the Pleasanton ridge. On a personal note I found some nice hiking and biking trails to explore after work.

Drainage
As for the drainage, which a lot of people have questions about, we like the water to flow away from the house and the foundation. For this particular driveway, there was an existing drain in the middle of it, so we slanted the driveway on both sides to flow down to the drain just as it did before. Since the landscape is higher on the perimeter we didn't have any other options anyway.
Adding a Landscape Design
This property, when finished with a completely new landscape design, will be absolutely stunning. A new paver stone driveway, a new paver stone walkway, a new paver stone patio, a river rock stream and fountain, a water wall and a fire pit. And some nice, low maintenance plants and trees to enclose the area.
