Patio Builders- Mountain View, CA
This little travertine paver patio is located in Mountain View CA. The more time I spend here in Mountain View, the more I like it. This particular project is walking distance to Castro Street, which is a little charming street with lots of shops and restaurants, coffee houses and bars. It has a college feel, much like many of the cities along highway 101 down the peninsula. The train runs along this stretch and I keep wanting to take the train one day and stop along all these cities with cool little downtowns.
Paver Patio & Walkway Project
This particular paver patio project in Mountain View is typical of a new home build on a small lot. This patio and walkway is around 400 square feet and the property, much like any new home, had only dirt for the backyard; minus a three by two feet concrete pad outside the back door.

The clients really like the look of these 2 inch travertine pavers. Travertine is not cheap, but if you only have 400 square feet, it's really not that much more than pavers.
The process is the same except for the fact that we cannot use a plate vibrator to compact because the travertine will crack from the compacting force and the vibration. So, we just use a rubber stamper and carefully compact the travertine at the end of the project rather than use a plate vibrator.
My Own Preferred Paving Stone
I like the color of these travertine pavers. The closest color paving stone that one can find in the Bay Area would be a paver made by Belgard and the color is called Monticito. I was thinking about using the Monticito for my porch and walkway. I moved into a house that used brick and railroad ties for both the porch and walkway.
The brick is sinking in so many places that I am afraid that someone is going to trip. Also, the railroad ties look, shall I I say, stupid and out of place. Not to mention they are really old and prone to give someone a splinter if they are walking on them with bare feet, as my kids tend to do. But I digress...

Travertine pavers can be purchased with individual sizes per pallet or a mix on the pallet, depending on the ones you choose. However, with these particular travertine pavers, they came with three sizes on the pallet and no border stone was available. The pattern will just have to flow into the border with no one size border that we typical have with standard, concrete, paver stones.
The Best Patio Contractors Around
This project had a tight access and it was a little difficult to get into to work, but after all, there was really only dirt to take out so it made it much more simple than tearing out old concrete.
Being only four hundred square feet, this mountain view travertine patio paver project went by in a matter of days. I only had time to walk downtown for coffee in the morning so I'll have to explore Mountain View when the next project comes around.
The choice of Travertine vs Pavers for patios really comes down to price and preference. Both are great choices and both are so much nicer than concrete in my opinion.
